Who did you think would win in a battle?
Wyatt Halliwell or Hope Mikaelson?
Definitely Wyatt Halliwell! Mostly because I haven't actually watched a single episode of any of the Vampire Diaries shows yet, so I have no idea who Hope is. (The main character in Legacies, I think?) (Don't worry, it's on my to watch list, my watch list is just really long atm.) I will say though that Wyatt is gonna be my answer for most situations. (Also thanks for the chance to do a little meta about Wyatt and his powers.)
From an objective standpoint in regards to powers, Wyatt wins against pretty much anything. I've said before and I'll say it again, I believe that Wyatt managed to break the Grand Design in the unchanged future with the exposure of magic, and I think that means he was able to kill some beings that he should not have traditionally been able to, aka the Cleaners and maybe even the Angel(s) of Destiny. (Which also loops into one of my now favorite headcanons that prophecies are made as a warning that a witch capable of breaking the Grand Design is coming.)
The catch, and how I'm able to write Wyatt in literally any conflict in my next gen fics, is that he has a critical weakness: he is terrified at the possibility of what he's capable of. (I have also mentioned that interpretation before, in connection with how Billie unintentionally makes it worse.) That kind of power is a lot for one person to handle, and Wyatt outclasses quite literally everyone around him by a large margin. I think that in a sense, his own fear serves as a kind of limiter on his power because he won't use them to the fullest extent. This is partially because he doesn't fully know what he's capable of because he doesn't experiment with his powers or push boundaries the same way that Chris does. While Wyatt has that kind of power, he lacks a greater amount of control and precision because he doesn't practice.
In a situation where Wyatt does go full-out, however, I think that he wins, no question. It's incredibly rare for him to do so, but one of his primary powers (projection) is a version of reality warping, y'know? That's not even getting into the fact that he has energy waves that can flat-out incinerate enemies without even trying. The challenge is getting him to a place where he doesn't hold back.
#knightlywonders#asks#charmed#wyatt halliwell#i'm sorry i know this definitely isn't what you were looking for but i still need to sit down and watch tvd universe stuff#charmed meta#i was looking through my wyatt tag and i'm surprised i don't have more in there#i love wyatt halliwell so much like he is just a character that i think you can interpret in so many different ways#but canon lends itself to some pretty complex interpretations bc this is a child raised with such a powerful legacy#but also has his own heavy expectations and responsibility from when he is BORN so deciding how to balance it all#is just really interesting to me. he's definitely one of my favorite characters to rotate in my brain#even tho i def don't do it nearly as much as chris and bianca but he's up there#everytime i sit down and plot for the next gen characters i just get obsessed#like phoebe's oldest daughter peyton? love rotating her in my brain she's great#there's just so much to work with the idea of legacy and how their parents impacted them#but also the way that they each kinda have their own responsibilities that are unique to them#along with the unique way that they each approach magic and demons and protecting the innocent#idk i just love next gen so much man

— hi there! the time has finally come, and im publishing my first Yunho fic 🥹 lately, some kind of maternal instinct seems to have awakened in me, and i had to get it out somehow 😭😭 i guess im getting old. just to clarify, i haven't given birth myself or have kids, so this fic is solely written based on my imagination of what it might feel like postpartum.
love, monika. ♡
if you enjoyed this post, i'd be so grateful for a little love – a like, reblog or comment would truly make my day!
You were dozing off wrapped in Yunho’s arms, your head in the crook of his neck, his smell calming your tired body. Your eyes were heavy, and it was getting harder to fight sleep. His hand was creasing your sides softly, lulling you to sleep. Being curled up on top of your boyfriend was your favorite place on earth. There was something incredibly comforting about being wrapped up in Yunho’s arms, feeling his warmth and steady heartbeat. It's like your own little sanctuary, a safe place where you can let go of all your worries and just be present in the moment. And falling asleep like that, with the gentle rhythm of Yunho's breathing and the soft touch of his hand, felt like drifting off into a dreamland.
It was a little over a month since your life was turned upside down when your little daughter was born. In that short period, every aspect of your world had shifted, reshaped by the arrival of this tiny, precious bundle of joy. The days had blurred together in a whirlwind of feedings, diaper changes, and sleepless nights. Yet amidst the chaos, there were moments of pure magic—how your daughter's eyes would light up with wonder at the world around her, the soft coos and gurgles that melted your heart, and the overwhelming sense of love that filled every corner of your home. But alongside the joy, there were also moments of doubt and uncertainty. Yunho, however, was deeply scared and anxious about becoming a father to a daughter. The mere thought of holding the fragile little being, feeding her, or changing her, filled him with a sense of fear and hesitation. It almost seemed like he was unable, or unwilling, to form an emotional bond with the newborn. This emotional disconnect was not just limited to the baby. Ever since you gave birth, a sense of apprehension and fear had gripped him. It was as if he was afraid to hold you, to touch you, and to confront the changes that your body had undergone postpartum.
The vulnerability that came with postpartum recovery was like nothing you had ever experienced before. Your body felt foreign, every movement was accompanied by a dull ache, a reminder of the physical toll that bringing your daughter into the world had exacted. But it wasn't just the physical changes that left you feeling vulnerable—it was the emotional upheaval as well. The hormonal fluctuations, the sleep deprivation, the overwhelming responsibility of caring for a newborn—all of it combined to create a perfect storm of doubt and insecurity. In those moments of vulnerability, you had expected Yunho to be your rock, your unwavering source of support and comfort. Yet, his actions—or rather, his lack of them—left you feeling more alone than ever. His hesitation to hold your daughter, and his reluctance to look at your postpartum body, all served as a painful reminder of your perceived shortcomings as a mother and a partner. You couldn't help but wonder if Yunho found you unlovable now if the changes wrought by childbirth had somehow diminished your worth in his eyes. It was a cruel thought, born out of fear and insecurity, but it lingered nonetheless, festering like an open wound in your heart. You couldn't help but feel a sense of helplessness wash over you. The distance between you and your boyfriend felt insurmountable, a gaping chasm that threatened to swallow you whole.
That's why today's little nap meant everything to you. For the first time since the birth of Yunmi, Yunho was holding you like this, providing you with the comfort and warmth you longed for.
"Wait, did you hear that?" Yunho’s soft voice disrupted your nap. Not in your right state of mind yet, you just hummed against his neck, your eyes not opening even for a second. With a gentle hand, Yunho shifted you slightly, allowing himself to slip out from beneath your embrace. As he rose from the bed, you blinked groggily, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep that clung to your senses.
"What is it?" you murmured, your voice thick with sleep. Yunho's expression was one of quiet concern as he motioned towards the crib.
"I think she's awake," he whispered, his tone barely audible in the dimly lit room. Your exhaustion weighed heavily on every limb, making even the simplest tasks seem daunting. With a weariness that seemed to seep into your bones, you clung to the pillows, seeking refuge in their soft embrace.
"Could you get her?" you whispered, your voice barely above a hoarse murmur, as you heard the soft cry emanating from the crib. You mustered all your strength to sit up and shake off the tiredness as you looked at Yunho standing still next to the crib, almost as if he was unable to move any closer. Each cry felt like a dagger to your heart, a reminder of your inability to provide the comfort that your daughter so desperately needed.
"I think it's better if you take her," he said, his voice devoid of emotion, his gaze fixed on the wall as if unwilling to meet your eyes. The words struck you like a slap in the face, igniting a firestorm of indignation deep within your chest. Yunho's refusal to take Yunmi stirred a storm of emotions within you. Anger, frustration, hurt—all of it boiled beneath the surface, threatening to spill over at any moment. How could he still refuse to take responsibility for his own daughter? How could he stand there, staring blankly ahead, while you bore the brunt of exhaustion and fatigue?
"Yunho, how can you—" you began as you stood up from the bed, your voice trembling with emotion, but the words caught in your throat, choked off by the weight of your anger and hurt. Tears welled in your eyes, hot and stinging, as you struggled to contain the torrent of emotions threatening to overwhelm you. As you approached the crib, your hands clenched into fists at your sides, your breath coming in ragged gasps as you fought to maintain control. You leaned over the crib to take Yunmi into your arms and care for her. With a shaky breath, you turned away from Yunho, cradling your daughter close to your chest as you retreated to the living room. You weren't surprised that Yunho stayed behind in the bedroom, his presence a silent reminder of the distance that had grown between you. With a heavy heart, you settled onto the couch, cradling Yunmi in your arms as you prepared to breastfeed her. Your daughter's eyelids drooped as she nursed, the weight of exhaustion finally catching up to her. With each gentle suckle, she grew more and more drowsy, her tiny fingers curling against your skin in a gesture of contentment. As you watched her drift off to sleep, a pang of guilt tugged at your heart. You had expected Yunho to be there for you, to support you through the challenges of motherhood, yet time and time again, he had fallen short of your expectations. Yunmi finally drifted off to sleep, her tiny chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm. With a weary sigh, you leaned back against the pillows, holding your daughter close as you closed your eyes, allowing the exhaustion of the day to finally claim you.
You opened your eyes to see Yunho carefully lifting your daughter from your arms, his movements a mix of awkwardness and tenderness. Despite his initial hesitance, there was a determination in the way he cradled her against his chest as if he wanted to make up for any shortcomings. As he tiptoed back into the bedroom, you couldn't help but feel a surge of warmth in your heart. Despite the challenges you faced, seeing Yunho taking care of your daughter for what you believed was the first time, filled you with hope for the future. You listened as Yunho gently placed your daughter in her crib, his voice humming a soft lullaby as he tucked her in. Drifting back to sleep, you were roused once more by Yunho's quiet voice emanating from the bedroom.
"I have so much I want to say to you," he whispered, his voice barely above a hushed murmur. Yunho gazed down at Yunmi, her small form tucked snugly into her crib, her chest rising and falling in the steady rhythm of sleep. ''I'm so sorry for letting you, and your mommy down since day one...'' A sense of awe washed over him as he watched his daughter, the weight of his emotions threatening to overwhelm him. "You're my little starlight, and I'm sorry for not telling you sooner. Yunmi is Daddy's precious, shining light in the darkness." He reached out to gently brush a stray lock of hair from her forehead, his touch feather-light against her soft skin. "Daddy is really so sorry," he continued, his voice thick with emotion. "Sorry for all the times I've been afraid, for all the moments I've missed. I want you to know that I love you more than anything in this world, and I'll do whatever it takes to be the father you deserve." As he spoke, he felt a surge of love and determination welling up inside him, a newfound sense of purpose ignited by the presence of his daughter. In her innocent slumber, he saw the promise of a future filled with endless possibilities, a future that he vowed to protect and nurture with all his heart. "I may not have all the answers, and I will make mistakes along the way," he whispered, his voice trembling with sincerity. "But I promise to always be here for you, to love you unconditionally, and to cherish every moment we share." With a tender smile, he pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, his lips lingering against her skin for a moment longer. "I love you and Mommy so much. Sleep well, my little starlight," he whispered his voice a soft lullaby that filled the bedroom with warmth and love. "And know that Daddy will always be here, watching over you, every step of the way. From now on Daddy will do his best." As Yunho's words echoed in the quiet of the apartment, you felt a mix of emotions welling up inside you, threatening to overflow. Tears streamed down your face, unnoticed in the darkness, as a tumultuous storm of feelings raged within your heart. Anger simmered beneath the surface, directed not at Yunho, but at yourself. How could you have been so blind to his struggles, so oblivious to the pain he had been carrying? You berated yourself for not recognizing the signs sooner, for not being there for him when he needed you most. But amidst the anger, there was also a profound sense of relief—a weight lifting from your shoulders as you finally understood the depth of Yunho's feelings. For the first time since your daughter was born, you felt truly connected to him, bound together by the shared experience of parenthood and the raw vulnerability of exposing one's innermost fears. And beneath it all, there was love—a love that transcended words and actions, a love that bound you together despite the challenges you faced. Despite the tears and the turmoil, there was a sense of gratitude in knowing that you were not alone—that together, you could weather any storm that came your way.
A little while later, you heard Yunho returning to the living room, his footsteps soft against the floor. A pang of guilt tugged at your heart as you pretended to be asleep, not wanting him to know that you had overheard his heartfelt words to your daughter. You quickly wiped your tears, and kept your breathing slow and steady, willing yourself to remain still as Yunho approached the couch. Soon, his arms enveloped you in a gentle embrace, lifting you bridal-style and carrying you back to your shared bedroom. Settling you onto the bed, he tucked you in with care, ensuring you were comfortable before gently placing the duvet over you. His touch was tender, his actions speaking volumes of his love and devotion. Yunho pressed down a warm kiss to your forehead, his lips lingering for a moment against your skin.
"Y/N, I'm so sorry," he whispered, his voice trembling with emotion against your forehead. "I'm just so scared to be a father," he whispered, his voice barely audible in the stillness of the room. "Scared to hurt her, to make mistakes that she'll never forgive." You felt the weight of his fear pressing down on you, his vulnerability laying bare the depths of his insecurities. With each word, it was as if a window had been opened to his soul, revealing the raw, unfiltered truth of his innermost thoughts and feelings. "I want to be the best father I can be, but... but what if I'm not enough?" His voice cracked with the weight of his uncertainty, his words echoing in the stillness of the room. And then, you felt it—a single tear falling onto your temple, a silent testament to the depth of his pain and fear. In that moment, your heart broke for him, for the struggles he faced and the burdens he carried. "And you," Yunho continued, his voice trembling with emotion, "you've been amazing since day one. I've watched you, seen the way you care for her with such love and devotion. It's like you were born to be a mother, and... and I can't help but feel like I'm falling short." Yunho longed to be the pillar of support you needed, the rock upon which your family could lean in times of trouble. But with each passing day, the weight of his insecurities grew heavier, threatening to crush him beneath their burden. "I'm still so afraid," he admitted, his voice barely a whisper now. "Afraid of letting you down, of letting Yunmi down. But I promise, I'll keep trying. I'll do whatever it takes to be the father she deserves, even if... even if it scares me to my core." In the darkness of the bedroom, his words hung heavy in the air. "I love you so much, Y/N, and I will do better, I will be the support you need." Yunho's voice broke through the silence once again, his words filled with sincerity and remorse.
"And I love you," you finally whispered, your voice filled with tenderness and affection. With a gentle touch, you reached out to wipe away the tears that streaked Yunho's cheeks, your fingers tracing the contours of his face with utmost care.
"You've been awake the entire time?" Yunho's voice broke the silence, his words carrying a mixture of surprise and relief. A shy smile tugged at the corners of his lips, a hint of uncertainty in his gaze as he met your eyes. You returned his smile, the warmth of his presence washing over you like a gentle breeze.
"Yes," you admitted softly, your voice filled with understanding. "I heard everything." There was no judgment in your words, no recrimination for his vulnerability. Instead, there was only acceptance—a shared acknowledgment of the complexities of love and the struggles that came with it. Yunho's smile widened, a sense of gratitude shining in his eyes.
"Thank you for listening," he whispered, his lips placing yet another kiss on your forehead. "And for being here with me." You reached out to him, your hand finding his in the darkness, a silent reassurance of your love and support.
"Always," you whispered, your voice filled with unwavering devotion. "I'll always be here for you, Yunho. Through thick and thin." Yunho creased your cheek gently, his eyes never leaving yours. "And now get under the covers with me," you giggled mischievously, reaching out to pull Yunho close by his neck. With a playful tug, you caught him off guard, pulling him towards you until he landed on top of you with a soft thud. Yunho's eyes widened in surprise, a startled laugh escaping his lips as he found himself sprawled across the bed, his gaze locked with yours.
"You little trickster," he chuckled, his voice filled with amusement as he shifted to settle beside you under the covers. With a grin, you wrapped your arms around him, pulling him close until your bodies were pressed together in a warm embrace. The feel of his warmth against your skin sent a shiver of delight down your spine, a feeling of contentment settling over you like a soft blanket. "I haven't kissed you in forever," Yunho murmured, his voice laced with longing as he gazed into your eyes with a mixture of affection and desire. A soft smile tugged at the corners of your lips, your heart fluttering at the thought of his lips against yours.
"Then what are you waiting for?" you teased as you leaned in closer to him. With a tender touch, Yunho cupped your cheek, his thumb brushing lightly against your skin as he drew you closer to him. And then, with a gentle tilt of his head, his lips met yours in a sweet, lingering kiss. At that moment, as you melted into each other's embrace, time seemed to stand still. The world faded away, leaving only the two of you, lost in the warmth and intimacy of the moment. As you pulled away, breathless and flushed with emotion, you felt a sense of completeness wash over you—a reminder that no matter how long it had been since your last kiss, the love you shared was as strong and passionate as ever. A playful sparkle danced in your eyes as you posed the question, your curiosity piqued by Yunho's endearing nickname for your daughter.
"If she's your starlight, then what does it make me?" you asked, a teasing lilt to your voice as you awaited his response. Yunho's gaze softened as he looked at you, a tender smile gracing his lips.
"You," he said softly, his voice filled with warmth and affection, "you're my guiding light. The one that leads me home, no matter how lost I may feel." Your boyfriend's words washed over you like a gentle caress, filling you with a sense of warmth and love. With a smile of your own, you leaned in closer to him, your heart overflowing with love and gratitude.
"And you," you whispered, pressing a soft kiss to his lips, "you're my everything." And as you melted into each other's embrace, surrounded by the quiet intimacy of the night, you knew that no matter what the future held, as long as you had each other, you could weather any storm that came your way.
The sound of Yunmi's cries pierced through the tranquility of the night, pulling you from the depths of sleep with a jolt. You moved to rise from the bed, instinctively driven to tend to your daughter's needs. But before you could fully untangle yourself from the sheets, Yunho's firm grip on your arm halted your movements.
"I'll get her," he murmured, his voice filled with determination as he gently pulled you back towards the bed. You hesitated for a moment, torn between the instinctual urge to rush to Yunmi's side and the desire to trust Yunho to handle the situation. But as you looked into his eyes, you saw a steely resolve there—a determination to prove himself as a capable dad, despite his fears and insecurities. With a silent nod, you allowed yourself to sink back onto the bed, the warmth of Yunho's presence comforting you as you watched him rise to tend to your daughter. As he crossed the room to Yunmi's crib, you couldn't help but feel a surge of pride welling up within you—a recognition of the strength and courage it took for him to step up and take on the role of caregiver. Yunho took her in his arms, gently and tenderly, almost as if he were afraid that his touch alone might hurt her. He held Yunmi close to his chest, rocking gently from side to side, he tried to calm his daughter, yet Yunho's panic escalated as Yunmi's cries persisted, his worry evident in the trembling of his hands and the furrow of his brow.
"Is she okay?" he asked, his voice tight with anxiety.
"She's probably just hungry," you reassured him gently as you stood up for the bed, understanding the depth of his concern. But before you could offer to nurse her yourself, Yunho's response caught you off guard.
"Oh..." he trailed off, his voice filled with uncertainty. "I can't breastfeed her," he murmured, the realization dawning on him as he grappled with the limitations of his role as a father. You reached out to him, placing a comforting hand on his arm.
"It's okay, baby," you assured him softly. "There are other ways you can help soothe her. We can prepare a bottle together, or you can hold her close while I feed her. What's important is that we're both here for her." Yunho nodded, his eyes reflecting a mixture of relief and gratitude.
"Thank you," Yunho whispered, his voice filled with emotion as he passed Yunmi gently into your arms, his eyes still big with worry. "Should I prepare a bottle for her?" You smiled softly at his eagerness to help, appreciating his willingness to step up despite his initial panic.
"I think I'll just breastfeed her for now," you replied, your voice gentle and reassuring. "But thank you for offering." Yunho nodded, a sense of relief washing over him as he watched you cradle Yunmi close, the familiarity of the bond between mother and daughter bringing him a sense of comfort. As you settled into the comfortable position, you nursed Yunmi, Yunho remained by your side, offering silent support and encouragement. As you nursed Yunmi, the gentle rhythm of her feeding lulled both her and Yunho into a peaceful slumber. The soft sounds of her contented suckling mixed with the steady beat of their breathing, creating a tranquil symphony that filled the room. With Yunmi cradled in your arms and Yunho nestled close beside you, you felt a profound sense of contentment wash over you. The warmth of their bodies against yours, the softness of their breath against your skin—it was a moment of pure serenity, a snapshot of the quiet joy that parenthood brought. You allowed yourself to bask in the tranquility of the moment, relishing the feeling of being surrounded by the ones you loved most in the world. In the soft glow of the morning light, you watched over them with a heart full of love, knowing that in this simple embrace, you had everything you ever needed.
"Be patient with him. He's trying," you whispered to your daughter, the words soft and tender as you gazed down at her sleeping form.

Okay, but like. There's the whole joke about Bruce recruiting children to be his sidekicks, but honestly there's only really one that fits that.
And it's Jason. And the whole story there is, frankly, unhinged. Aaaaand then he died.
(I'm specifically talking about "first post-crisis origin stories" here because Jason and Dick, in particular, have both had multiple major retcons and revisions over the years, and some of them dramatically change how things happened.)
Like okay. Going backwards, you've got Duke who joined/led a whole Robin-based gang at a time when Bruce wasn't even Batman. You've got Damian and Cass, who were both literally born into the world of masks and capes and heroes and villains, so they weren't ever really not going to be part of it. Steph might have taken inspiration from previous heroes but she made her own identity and repeatedly refused to stop involving herself in the vigilante lifestyle. Tim, obviously, basically strong-armed Batman into letting him be Robin, despite Batman's protests.
Dick's a little more complicated just because there's so many versions, because that's what 80 years of comics and multiple universe reboots will do, and there's kind of a general trend that earlier pre-crisis versions were more of Batman being like "hello, child, would you like to be my sidekick" and later versions have leaned harder and harder into the idea that Dick was absolutely going to do this anyway, regardless of what Batman had to say about it. But even in the first post-crisis version, the flashback in Batman Year 3, Dick says he wants to find a way to keep people like that from hurting others again. When Alfred questions Bruce's offer to train him, Bruce says that Dick should learn to do things the right way if he's going to do it. It's not hard to extrapolate that, much like later versions of the origin story, Dick was going to get himself into this one way or another. (Batman (1940) #437)
And then there's Jason. Whose backstory has also had a lot of (sometimes major) revisions over the years (remember when his adoption was, like, some kind of Joker-originated long con? Fucken Nu52, man). But the original post-crisis version is pretty straightforward. Steals Batman's tires, gets caught and sent to Ma Gunn's Secret Criminal School, intervenes when Batman goes to investigate, immediately gets offered the chance to be Robin based entirely on that.
Which is itself kind of unhinged. That Bruce saw this kid who was living on his own stealing tires and went "Hey you would make a good Robin" as his very first instinct.
But if you've never read Jason's post-crisis origin, or it's been a while, it's honestly even more unhinged than that because that arc starts with Dick getting "fired" as Robin specifically for the reason that he got shot by Joker and Bruce freaked out about how the Robin identity has too many enemies and therefore Dick, a legal adult with approximately a decade of training and experience, should not use the identity anymore.
(And it's specifically about the Robin identity, in this version, because when Dick says he's not going to stop the crime fighting thing Bruce's response is basically "I know and I didn't expect you to". Honestly I could also say a lot about this version of the Robin/Nightwing transition vs. later ones and how this one definitely feels like the Heavy Hand of DC Editorial in the fact that they had no contact for so long afterwards, because the interaction really doesn't feel like it warrants that in this case compared to some later versions, but that's a whole other too-long ramble.) (Batman (1940) #408)
And then a few weeks later Bruce turns around and picks up a random kid, a literal child, and goes "Hey you would make a good Robin!"
And I think a lot about how fucking wild that is. And it's not like the people writing just didn't notice. Dick's big argument with Bruce when he finally comes back to Gotham and meets Jason isn't about the fact that Bruce took in another kid, or even necessarily about Dick feeling proprietary over the Robin identity, the thing he's angry about is that Bruce said it was too dangerous for him, an adult, someone who has trained with Batman for a decade and was already highly physically trained before that for his whole life, to be Robin, and now Bruce has turned around and painted that target onto some random new kid. He pushes, repeatedly, trying to get Bruce to justify himself and this absolutely irresponsible decision, and Bruce gives a lot of answers about how Jason was on a bad path and needed this outlet and eventually just admits that he missed having a partner. (Batman (1940) #416)
And like. Dick's right, is the thing. He is 1000% in the right in this argument. If he can't be Robin anymore because of the danger, how in the hell is it anything like a good idea to hand it over to someone way younger, way less trained, way less experienced, and expect that that wouldn't end in tragedy?
And then it did.
And yeah, Bruce, it is kinda a lot of your fault.
#And the punchline is Batman clearly should not get to choose his own sidekicks! Haha?#(Sorry this is a lot more serious than my usual Batfam shitposts it won't be a regular habit don't worry)#this is long and rambly but it's something i think about a lot#and it's on my mind extra because of an AU oneshot i'm working on finishing right now#and obviously there's eight kabillion versions of any given origin and reboots and retcons and they change drastically yadda yadda yadda#and also obviously there's always behind-the-scenes editorial choices and other factors when it comes to comics story events#story and character choices are frequently not just a matter of storytelling but of things like meeting editorial demand of What Must Happe#but just looking at the story as presented: the one time bruce specifically recruited someone as his sidekick that kid ended up dead for it#it does make narrative sense given this that bruce's reaction to most of the subsequent kids is initially 'go the fuck home and stop this'#and then only really yielding with the realization that they're totally going to do this shit anyway#jason todd#dick grayson#bruce wayne

𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬
This is a game that has extremely heavy themes, so please be aware of that! There's some things said that are extremely dark within their own context, so discretion is advised. Also obvious dialogue spoilers for the game.
Remember to specify muse for multi-muses!
"I hope this hurts."
"The only thing that's worth than dyin' is not gettin' paid."
"Man. Pony Express bosses really aren't chill at all, huh?"
"C'mon. One look won't hurt."
"How exactly is this group therapy committee planning on getting in there?"
"I nearly corked a kid once!"
"You were goddamn born fully corked!"
"For better or worse I'm captain now. I'll figure it out."
"He doesn't want to keep still anymore."
"What about the pain killers?"
"...You did make it through nursing school right?"
"I'll take care of it."
"Why do you think he did it?"
"Does it matter? What answer would make you feel any better?
"I have to believe our worst moments don't make us monsters, [name]."
"He tried to take us all down with him, [name]."
"As I see it there's two reasons to keep him alive at this point. Guess the important bit is that we all agreed to it. For one reason or another."
"I'm workin'. Blue collar fools can't afford to stop working even when the machine does. Go figure."
"I ain't letting anyone else mess around in there."
"I warned her, but it was in one ear and out the other."
"Then there's that teeny bopper only thinkin' with his downstairs longnose just like my useless kids back home."
"Are we doing the right thing...?"
"...Are you listening?"
"Couldn't sleep again, but I passed the psych eval?"
"I do wish you'd open up a little more, [name]."
"He acts as if I do these things for fun."
"I've known him a long time. He won't try any bullshit with me."
"They can't expect me to work miracles!"
"I don't know what it means, but... it sounds like fun."
"Passed inspection, right? Shouldn't be an issue."
"I take it [name] diagnosed you with "being sane" then?"
"...How are things otherwise? Off the record."
"I like it. We're in control here."
"How come it always feels like you're standing on the edge of a bridge with your feet in cement?"
"Is this enough? Should I just stay here because I've been successful at it?"
"It's terrifying. I think, "Am I figured out? Is this all I'll ever be?" Or do I take the risk and try something new? Even if I'm bad at it."
"Hm. I guess I get it. You've reached the highest rung on this ladder and now you're thinkin' you might be on the wrong ladder altogether. Still a long way down from the top no matter how you look at it... While I'm still climbing and climbing."
"Hey I believe in you! Here. On Earth. Doesn't matter."
"...It's all mouthwash."
"I s'pose we'll smell good at least."
"Guess anyone could get seriously blasted off this stuff."
"Yeah and kill you in the process."
"...Hey. What's wrong?"
"That's all it said on the report from management. We will receive the paycheck for this delivery. I don't know anymore than that."
"...So I guess you got what you wanted. Without the guilt."
"...[name]. If I had known..."
"I can go back to my, how'd you put it? "Struggle of a life.""
"I'm just working on my life being a place I don't have to fucking escape!"
"We're the ones you're trying to escape! Leave the dirt behind now that your boots are clean."
"You just couldn't frame it to yourself in a way that still kept you as the hero."
"Let's have some fucking cake, hmm?"
"Come on. Stop with the noise."
"I know what everyone is thinking. The way they look at me. What can I even say?"
"I hope these make you feel fucking better."
"Take responsibility."
"Sometimes you can only get the subpar stuff. That' what makes the really good stuff, well, good, right?"
"Hey. We all tried to escape. It didn't work for any of us."
"I've thought many times, "Hey is this what peace feels like? And is this good enough?" If I'm being real it certainly isn't the best. So all I can try to do is make my life one I'm not trying to run from all the time."
"Mom found this internship for me. Such a slacker she said."
"I don't know. I just never know what I wanted to be. Never was good at anything."
"We're not done yet, [name]."
"Listen, listen! This is the best part. Aa-waay-oooo!"
"You're a mess, [name]."
"[name] pullin' the plug on the party before it's the last call!"
"you thinking about drinking that too?"
"Honestly, yeah. It'd probably just make me sick. Wouldn't fix anything, as much as I'd like it to."
"...You're not serious."
"Look I've entertained your sentimentality up until now, but I'm actually trying to fix things [name]!"
"...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to—"
"...I don't think I understood the pressure you were under before. Fuck. And you tried to tell me."
"Our worst moments don't make us monsters, huh?"
"I'll get us both through this."
"You heard [name]. I wouldn't put it past them to do something extreme right now."
"What would you have done?"
"Anything. Anything. You, the crew, you're all my responsibility."
"I know you'd never give me the gun to protect myself, so the least I can do... is make sure he never gets it either."
"...The bleeding won't stop. Just try to sit still [name]."
"It's alright, [name]. Calm down."
"I though you were dumber than a can of paint, always chewing me ear off about something. Useless ray of goddamn sunshine. Not an ace student, career workhorse or force of ambition. Just a damn good kid trying his best. You coulda taught an old fool like me a lot."
"Why can't any of you give me some time to fucking think!?"
"How do you still not understand? It's over. End of the fuckin' line."
"Take care of it."
"All I ever hear is how great of a leader you are. God, it's so annoying."
"Or this can be remembered as a tragedy. Despite what must have been the best efforts of it's acclaimed captain. The crew never found. No one survived to tell the tale."
"You're standing at the top. Feet in cement. I get it now. Right?"
"[Name], t-tell me you didn't."
"I won't give up on you, even like this, I believe in you. We're going to make it through this."
"I have something to say. So shut the fuck up and listen."
"So I got a collar shirt, a mortgage. Everything that makes a good man."
"I wanted to believe I was never one set-back away from my worst self."
"I've got nothing to hide. I'll face the music. I can see myself for what I am. But you? A cowardly, selfish motherfucker and you can't even see it."
"[Name]. I'm going to fix everything. We're going to make it."
"Fuck you."
"I know what you think of this predicament of yours. Poor you. Caged and misunderstood."
"Shut up. [Name] tried his best. I did too, but he's the better man."
"You really mean all that, huh?"
"I fucked up, but I can make things right."
"You always had my back. I ended up I ended up hurting you even though I was trying to save us."
"It's like you said, together we can fix anything."

“I really just need to make an entire breakdown on Medic one of these days 😭” Well, do it. Umm, you coward —I'm so sorry for calling you a coward, Jamison :'(—.
Medic's Past Headcanons (Also Some Archimedes Content!)
————————————————————
No apology needed my friend, I am but a coward 😭
I lied a little bit, I changed my mind on doing a full breakdown, just changed it to some headcanons about his past and meeting Archimedes </3
But no, I've mainly not posted this because I've had other requests and also this one will probably get heavy. I wasn't sure if I wanted to post content with actual angst and upsetting themes.
But I'm here now because looking past all the jokes and my own personal love for doctors. I should also mention, written by an American and a person with know knowledge of the German education system, and medical practices in general!
ALSO, finally writing Medic with his accent and some actual German, please forgive me if you are a native speaker for using a mix of google translate and my very poor German skills 💖
————————————————————
ALSO ALSO mutual appreciation comment! Another thank you for letting me talk about Medic <3
————————————————————
TW: CHILD NEGELECT, SU!C1D@L IDIATIONS, FLUFF AT THE END!
————————————————————
He's been asked about his mother before, his answer has always been,
"Meine mutter? She vas good woman, she... she did her best." Said with a softer tone than anyone has ever heard him speak in.
He's lying. She severely neglected him as child. After his mother fell pregnant, his father left. His mother resented Medic for this, blaming him for his father leaving, refusing to realize how volatile their relationship had been before he was conceived. When Medic was born his mother refused to bond with him, holding him only when others gave her expecting looks. For the first years of his life his mother only tended to his basic needs to keep him from crying, his crying always annoyed her. It never got better with time, she never learned to love him like people had claimed when she started expressing her contempt for him. She would sometimes give him small bits of attention, then she would get a wicked smile on her face as he cried when she stopped paying attention to him for seemingly no reason. Always making him feel like he was responsible for the sudden lack of attention.
———————————————————
His younger years in school is also something he will lie about if asked. (I'm ignoring college because uh, I have no idea what to write for that 😭)
"I vas great, top of my classes, Natürlich. Ich war sehr beliebt."
(Of course. I was very popular)
When he was younger, he was top of his classes. He always excelled at whatever class he was put in, his favorites being science, he obviously loved medical textbooks, along with zoology textbooks, always had one of the other, he'd spend lunches just reading from his books, or hiding in the library, trying to learn everything he could about both. In a way you could say he was popular, but not in the good way. He always had his books on hand, always had the best grades, was always the teachers favorite student, and the other kids hated that. He took his fair share of beatings while he was in school.
————————————————————Medic had never thought about dying, sure he watched patients die, and he knew deep down his mother had died at some point, (He never heard from her after he left his home town, despite his attempts to contact her) but he never thought about the concept of him dying. It hit him like a ton of bricks when he had his first panic attack, and it clicked in his head that he just didn't want to be alive. He couldn't tell you why the switch flipped in his head that made him reach that low, but it did, and it was awful. He almost went insane, he couldn't breathe, he couldn't do anything besides sit in his room and feel years of emotions just hit him out of nowhere. He thought he would die, he wanted to die, dying would be preferable to whatever this was. In the midst of his panic attack, something hit his window with a loud thump. (Aren't I so clever for this transition? lmao 😭)
————————————————————
The day Medic and Archimedes met continues to be one of the best days of his life. A bird had hit his window, pulling him out of whatever spiral he was currently having. Medic just looked at the window for a minute, content to just assume the bird flew off after being dazed a bit. When he heard tiny coos and chirps outside. He pushed it open and saw a little dove huddled in a corner, cooing sadly, shaking as it tried to move its wing but chirping painfully when he moved his wing. Medic put his hand out and tried to scoop up the bird, and the bird ended up attacking his hand. Medic pulled his hand back, a tad shocked, but then tried again. The bird slowly eased up to him once he understood Medic wasn't going to hurt him. Medic took him inside and checked him out. His wing was broken, and it was nothing Medic couldn't fix. He fixed up the birds wing, then decided to get some things to keep the bird comfortable while he recovered. He ended up spoiling him without realizing it. He went to go buy a bird cage and ended up buying the nicest one, the best bird food, and even toys 😭 He came back and set it up all nice for the bird. They bonded pretty quickly after that. However, time passed, and Medic found himself growing attached to the little bird, even naming him, which he knew was a mistake the moment he did so. He knew it was a bad idea, and he did it anyway. After about a month of them living together, Archimedes wing was functional again, Medic enjoyed watching him fly from his cage to the door to great him when he came home from wherever he had gone. But after the third or fourth time, Archimedes greeted him at the door. He knew he was well enough to go back out into the world. That evening, before sunset, Medic opened his window and put Archimedes on the ledge, prompting him to fly off, totally not on the verge of tears, about to experience the worst pain of his life or anything. Archimedes just tilted his head, confused, turned around, and nestled up to Medics arm that he had been propping himself on. Audible sobbing could be heard from his house that night. Medic would later find a way to keep Archimedes to live forever with him, making sure that Archimedes was spoiled to death, and was told each day the value Medic put on their friendship.
"Wir werden für immer zusammen sein, mein Freund, das verspreche ich!"
"Coo"
(It'll be us forever my friend, I promise.)
(I'm counting on it)
————————————————————
Ough, im a sucker for a happy ending 😭or for some reason, I feel like this is super embarrassing, but I' going to ignore that feeling. Sorry for the angst dump, but it had to be done, and I'm sorry it's not very long! I hope you guys like this! Uh, a mini headcanons, then another Medic post, and then some new headcanons are in the works! There is so much Medic content, but I'm not complaining 💖

Read this before interacting┊aikm’s Genjiden Glossary
After a ritual that was being held at the castle since morning was over—.
(Now that I’m done helping out with the ritual, I can take a break and go shopping.)
As I walked around town, I recalled the serious facial expression I saw on Yasuchika-san’s face from afar during the ritual earlier.
(He was specially invited from Kyoto for the ritual… as expected of Yasuchika-san, the infamously talented Onmyōji.)
(— Oh? Speaking of which… isn’t it Yasuchika-san’s birthday today?)
(If I happen to meet him later, I should wish him happy birthday before he returns to Kyoto.)
Yuno: But I don’t think it’ll be easy to meet him…
???: — Who’s not easy to meet?
Yuno: ? Um, oh… Yasuchika-san!?
I looked up in surprise when someone responded to my mumbling.
Yasuchika: Hello! Fox Princess.
(Speak of the devil! I can’t believe we really ran into each other.)
Surprised by the unexpected meeting, I quickly returned the greeting and asked him about what I was thinking about earlier.
Yuno: Yasuchika-san, it’s your birthday today, right?
Yasuchika: Hm? That’s right. You remembered.
(I knew it!)
Yuno: Happy birthday!
Yasuchika: Mm, thanks.
Yasuchika: I’m dressed like this and came all the way to Kamakura for work on my birthday. I’m amazing, you know?
Yasuchika: Such a hardworking man like myself is always open to receiving gifts!
(Hmm, this brings back some memories. I remember him asking for gifts like this last year too.)
(... Huh?)
I was about to smile back at him — and then I realised something.
Although his words sound cheerful, Yasuchika-san didn't seem genuinely happy.
Yuno: … By any chance, are you uninterested in celebrating your own birthday?
Yasuchika: Huh?
I asked the question without much thinking and Yasuchika-san's eyes widened for a moment like he had been caught.
Yasuchika: … You’re right. I mean, it’s honestly no different from any other regular day.
Yasuchika: But birthdays are special for most people, right? So I thought I’d follow suit.
(Follow suit? He’s just trying to fit in?)
(That means Yasuchika-san doesn't actually care about his birthday…)
At that moment, I noticed a slight cold glint in Yasuchika-san’s eyes.
(This question might sound like I’m intruding too far into his boundaries, but for some reason I can’t leave this as it is…)
Yuno: If it’s the birthday of someone important to you, would it still be no different from any other day?
Yuno: For example, would you be happy or want to celebrate it for them…?
I asked while thinking about what I would personally do in those situations, and Yasuchika-san responded with a smile.
Yasuchika: I’ll be happy for them, I guess? If they wanted to be born, that is.
Yasuchika: … But that’s not always the case for everyone.
Yasuchika: There are people who lead a life full of pain and suffering, cursing at the fact that they were ever born into this world.
(Cursing at being born…?)
The unexpectedly heavy response from Yasuchika-san took me by surprise.
(— Everyone has their own ways of thinking. But… his way feels kind of lonely.)
(I wonder if Yasuchika-san’s past birthdays have never been enjoyable for him…)
Husband: — Come on, watch your step. It can turn into something big if you trip and fall.
Wife: Of course I will! I’ll also be sure to use you as a cushion to soften the impact if I do fall~
(Hm?)
Yasuchika: Oops, that’s…
Yasuchika-san and I heard a conversation, and at the same time we turned to see a pregnant woman with a large baby bump slowly walking alongside a man who appeared to be her husband.
(Wow, she’s pregnant!)
Yuno: Hello. Are the two of you headed somewhere?
The young couple wore puzzled expressions when I suddenly approached them.
I introduced myself to them as a physician while maintaining a cheerful attitude.
Yasuchika: That was a very happy conversation.
Wife: Ah, you heard us? That’s kind of embarrassing.
Husband: Actually, we’re on our way to the midwife’s house. There still quite a while before our baby is due, but the assessment suggested that we make our way there earlier.
Wife: I was told that it's beneficial for me to move around once in a while, and I’ve been going for regular check-ups.
Yuno: Ahh, I see.
(That’s reassuring to know. I was concerned about her moving around while heavily pregnant, but… they seem to be very happy.)
Yasuchika: …
(? Yasuchika-san…?)
I noticed that Yasuchika-san was lost in thought.
Yasuchika: May I know where the midwife’s house is?
Husband: The house? Go along this road, then head north…
The couple answered his question politely without a hint of hesitation.
Yasuchika-san listened to their answer and nodded in understanding while paying attention to the pregnant woman’s abdomen.
(Is something the matter?)
Yasuchika: — I have just one piece of advice for this happy couple.
Yasuchika: Avoid the road you’re planning to take, and instead go by that one over there.
Couple: Huh…?
Yasuchika: Well then, I wish you well!
Yasuchika-san ignored their looks of confusion and smiled warmly at the woman.
They were confused by the sudden advice to take a detour for some reason unknown to them.
Wife: Erm, well… if someone as respectable as you says so.
Husband: Ah, yeah… we’ll take your advice. Thank you.
It seems that Yasuchika-san’s physical appearance gave them the impression that he was a man of high authority.
Despite feeling obliged, the couple sincerely accepted Yasuchika-san’s advice and left.
Yasuchika: Yup, it’s a good thing to be honest.
Yuno: Yasuchika-san… what was that all about?
Yasuchika: Just being a busybody.
Yasuchika: It’s always good to listen to any advice someone has for you, although you’ll never know if it’s genuine good advice.
(Ugh, I’m so curious!)
(But I highly doubt he’ll tell me what it is.)
His usual carefree smile made me realise that I was likely to be the one who would be deceived by the “smoke screen” he put up.
Yuno: — By the way, Yasuchika-san. If you have time to spare, can I have a moment with you?
…
Afterwards, Yasuchika-san and I were having sweets at a nearby teahouse—.
(Come to think of it, this is the first time I’m in a shop together with Yasuchika-san.)
I realised it while eating my dumplings.
I glanced at Yasuchika-san who was seated next to me, only to see that he had been staring at me as well and our eyes met.
(Ah…)
Yasuchika-san narrowed his eyes and smiled.
Yasuchika: My encounters with you are always something new.
Yuno: W-What do you mean “encounters”...
Even though he was most likely joking, the realisation that we were alone together made my heart race.
Yuno: B- But I’m glad to meet you today!
Yuno: Today is an important occasion because it’s the day you were born.
Yasuchika: …
(Huh…?)
Yasuchika: Right. I knew you’d say something like that.
Yasuchika-san’s facial expression quickly relaxed and went back to his usual smile, but…
(Just a second ago… he looked kind of lonely.)
His response that seemed to contain a hidden meaning left a feeling of uncertainty in my heart.
(I wonder what's on Yasuchika-san’s mind.)
…
By the time we left the teahouse, the sky was already dyed orange by the setting sun.
Yasuchika: Today was so much fun.
Yuno: Yeah.
Although I nodded in response to Yasuchika-san, I couldn't get that impatient feeling off my chest.

Yasuchika: I’ll be happy for them, I guess? If they wanted to be born, that is.

(The person Yasuchika-san mentioned earlier who led a life full of suffering…)
(I have no idea who he was referring to. It’s also possible that he could've been making a general statement.)
(But…)
I recalled the cold look I caught a glimpse of in Yasuchika-san’s eyes when I asked him about his birthday.
(Yasuchika-san definitely has no sentimental feelings about being born.)
And somehow, I thought that it was incredibly lonely.
(I wouldn't go as far as to say that I’m glad he was born.)
(But at the very least — I hope to let him know that there are people who are happy that he exists.)
Yasuchika: … Well then, it’s unfortunately about time to go home. I’ll walk you back to the castle, Yuno-san.
Yuno: ! Ah, you’re right. Thank you, Yasuchika-san.
(There are still many things I want to know about Yasuchika-san…)
(I don’t want to let him go just like this.)
…
As I continued pondering about how I could convey that sentiment to Yasuchika-san, we got closer and closer to the castle…
Yuno: … Hm? Yasuchika-san, over there.
Yasuchika: Yeah. The couple we met in town. Looks like the wife isn't here.
Nearby the castle, we saw the man we met earlier pacing back and forth in the area.
(I think he’s looking for someone… ah.)
The man suddenly turned his gaze in our direction.
His eyes lit up the moment he saw Yasuchika-san and immediately ran towards us.
Husband: Ahh, I’m glad to see you again…! I wanted to thank you at all costs for what you did for us.
Yuno: Thank?
Yasuchika: From the looks of it, the baby must've been born safe and sound.
Husband: Yes! … As expected, you foresaw that happening, didn’t you?
The man was overflowing with respect and gratitude towards Yasuchika-san.
We were told that the baby was born earlier than expected, but they fortunately arrived at the midwife’s house just in time.
Moreover, the road they had initially planned to take had stray dogs in the area at that time of day.
Yuno: Stray dogs…!?
Husband: Yes. The midwife told us that we were lucky we didn’t take that route today. We were so surprised to hear that.
Husband: Had we taken that route, we would’ve been attacked by stray dogs and…
The man turned pale at the thought.
(Thank goodness the mother and child are safe…!)
Yasuchika: At any rate, you’re pretty good at finding me.
Husband: I described you to the midwife and she told me that you were an Onmyōji.
Husband: I thought that a man of your status would visit the castle, and so I came to see if I could meet you here!
Yasuchika: You’re very sincere.
Yuno: You’re amazing, Yasuchika-san. Did you already know everything at that time?
Yasuchika: Eh? I didn't know that there would be stray dogs.
(What!?)
Yasuchika-san laughed at our shocked expressions.
Yasuchika: All I knew at that point of time was that the baby would be born today.
Yasuchika: And the road you were planning to take was not a good direction for the child.
Yasuchika: Even though you had to take a detour, I thought it’d be better to just avoid that road today.
(Wow. He figured that out in such a short time…)
(The family was able to avoid a disaster, because of Yasuchika-san’s advice.)
Husband: I’m so grateful to have met you today… thank you so much!
The man bowed deeply to Yasuchika-san, who responded with a smile.
Yasuchika: I’m glad I could help.
Yasuchika: But instead of staying here and talking to us, I think you should hurry back to your family.
Yasuchika: They must be waiting for you to go home.
The man thanked Yasuchika-sam one more time before hurrying off, not wanting to wait even a moment longer to see his family.
Yuno: … I’m sure that family will always be grateful for you, Yasuchika-san.
Yasuchika: Really? I think they’ll forget about it very soon.
I shook my head in disagreement.
(I know that’s not true. Because…)
Yuno: The couple will never forget the day their child was born, along with the man who saved their child’s life.
Yuno: As the child will surely hear this story from their parents many times while they’re growing up.
Yuno: Their parents will tell them “on the day you were born, this happened…”
Yasuchika: …
I recalled the words of gratitude towards Yasuchika-san earlier.
Yuno: They’ll be grateful to have met you today, and that you’re here—
Yuno: … Isn’t that the same as being glad that you were born?
Yasuchika: … That’s…
(This might sound exaggerated. I might even get laughed at for jumping to conclusions. But, still…)
I turned to face Yasuchika-san, who seemed surprised, and looked into his eyes.
The words came out of my mouth naturally.
Yuno: Happy birthday, Yasuchika-san.
Yasuchika: …
Yasuchika: — Thank you, Yuno-san.
Yasuchika-san’s facial expression when he responded was softer than usual…
…
Yuno: You’re leaving for Kyoto before sunrise?
I was surprised by what Yasuchika-san said to me as he walked me to the castle’s courtyard.
The moon shone brightly in the night sky.
Yuno: You have quite a strict schedule.
Yasuchika: I may look like this, but I’m a busy man.
(He’s smiling while saying that, but he surely doesn't have enough time to sleep, right…?)
Yuno: I’m sorry for taking up so much of your time until this late. Thank you for keeping me company.
Yasuchika: Don’t say that. You did it because you didn't want me to spend my birthday alone, didn’t you?
Yasuchika: I should be the one thanking you instead.
Yuno: I don’t think so…
(If anything, I think it was because I was being selfish.)
(But…)
Yuno: I’m glad to know you enjoyed your birthday.
Yasuchika-san’s eyes widened slightly upon hearing my response.
Yasuchika: … You’re still as good natured as ever.
Yuno: Huh? Yasuchik…—?
He closed the distance between us, reaching his hand to the back of my neck and gently pulling me closer.
I felt something soft touch my forehead, and felt Yasuchika-san’s breath on my bangs.
(Ah…)
Yasuchika: A good luck charm. … For you, the person who’s kind enough to celebrate the day I was born.
Yasuchika: May all your birthdays from now on always be so full of kindness and blessings that they can repel any curse.
Yuno: Yasuchika-san…
His eyes gazing down at me sparkled mysteriously under the moonlight.
(He looks so… gentle.)
I gazed at him, feeling enchanted by his eyes.
I suddenly caught a glimpse of a pained expression on his face that only lasted a split second…
Yasuchika: See you, Fox Princess.
(Ah…)
The moment I could no longer feel his warmth, my heart filled with an inexplicable feeling of emptiness.
Yasuchika: It’s dark, so be careful while walking. … Go straight inside without looking back.
(Was I mistaken…?)
I nodded at Yasuchika-san who had his usual unreadable smile and turned to walk towards the castle.
But I ended up defying Yasuchika-san’s words, and turned around again.
(... Beautiful.)
I watched Yasuchika-san’s back as he walked out of the castle.
And a small thump echoed deep in my heart—.

I’m having Gavin Family brain rot so here are my parent designs!
If you want to read me psychoanalyzing the whole family, see below :3
Starting with Katrin, my idea was that her personality largely resembles Kristoph’s. Working with the assumption that Kristoph has antisocial personality disorder, we know that susceptibility for the disorder passes through the maternal genes. I don’t think that either Katrin or Kristoph would be born with antisocial personality disorder. Both are victims of intergenerational cycles of abuse, which cause them to develop the disorder as a response to the trauma they received.
It is worth pointing out that antisocial personality disorder is a spectrum, as are all mental disorders, and ASPD does not make a person abusive, however, it will influence the way an abusive person abuses. In the case of these two, both are prone to manipulation. Katrin leans towards emotional manipulation, Kristoph leans more towards gaslighting and psychological abuse.
For those wondering, even though the terms are outdated and no longer used due to societal stigma, in a court of law both Katrin and Kristoph’s ASPD would be referred to as sociopathy; both would be considered sociopaths. However, the terms psychopath and sociopath overlap a lot and neither Kristoph or Katrin neatly fit under one or the other.
I also like to think that she has obsessive-compulsive disorder, although the symptoms lessened when she began to develop ASPD. I headcanon both of the two Gavin brothers as having OCD and I think their mother would be the genetic link for that.
Meanwhile, for Karsten, he was raised by very well known and praised defense attorneys, both of whom were demanding. He was raised very traditionally, however not necessarily religiously. Due to these beliefs, he was expected to carry on the Gavin family legacy despite the fact that he had no interest of having a family of his own or working in the field of law. After meeting Katrin, the two decided it would be most convenient for both of them to be married. Katrin, with the newfound status of being a Gavin, was able to quickly climb the corporate ladder and acquired her CEO position. Karsten began working for the company in the wake of his wife’s success.
The dude is very autistic, but refuses to get tested at all, rejects the entire notion. When his children began displaying signs of mental illness he purposefully ignored the signs and became more heavy handed. I like to think his special interest is something entirely out of character like makeup, or nail art.
In my personal opinion, Klavier shows a lot of the signs of autism, although that may be projection. I think that Karsten would not like Klavier in the slightest, especially because he sees a lot of his own symptoms in Klavier and thus he will never be able to live up to his standards.
Similar to what a lot of people in the fandom headcanon for the Gavin family, I believe that Kristoph would have been the primary caretaker for Klavier, despite both parents being present in their lives. I think that Kristoph initially moved to the United States to separate himself from his parents, and that Klavier followed suit not too long after.

NAME. Tobias Alon AGE & BIRTH DATE. 30 & April 25th, 1993 GENDER & PRONOUNS. Male & He/Him SPECIES. Lycan PACK. Lupo OCCUPATION. Bookseller at Fantasmagoria Books FACE CLAIM. Drew Starkey
biography
Raised in a loving home by a single mother, Tobias has never been a stranger to responsibility. In his youth, his mother, Janice, preached heavily about the importance of keeping the pack, the family, safe. She taught him that some people had obligation and duty braided into their DNA, that those people were the type to carry heavy burdens without complaint. He took her words as gospel, at the time unknowing that his mother was one of those people herself. She worked long hours, strange hours even, doing whatever it took to keep food on the table for Tobias. Not that the pack would have let them starve, but Janice was a proud woman and an even prouder Lycan. Taking handouts wasn’t something she was capable of.
As Tobias got older, he shared his mother’s burden in any way he could. A newspaper route, decluttering packmate’s garages, babysitting; Tobias did anything to raise a bit of money to help ease his mother’s loaded shoulders and like his mother, he did so without complaint. Janice didn’t let him throw too much of himself into those responsibilities, however. His studies and schoolwork were still high on her list of expectations, as were getting into college. Soccer was also a well-loved sport in their home, with Janice having been a soccer player back in her own youth. During their downtime, it wasn’t unheard of to see the two of them in the backyard, kicking around a ball until it became too dark to see. He joined the soccer team when he was a kid, keeping up with it even now.
It was a few short weeks after Tobias’ twenty-first birthday that tragedy struck. A known Volatile had been spotted entering Rome and the Tiber Alpha had put everyone on strict instructions not to engage until something could be done. So why had they find his mother’s body, heart ripped out, on the outskirts of the city? What had she been doing so far from the pack? Why hadn’t she told him where she’d be that night? The questions plagued his every waking moment, but only one person had the answers he so desperately sought.
When the Tiber Alpha appeared on his doorstep a day after his mother’s funeral, he allowed her in with a nod. She sat with him in the kitchen, sharing stories of her time with his mother as they’d grown up together. It felt good, seeing his Alpha talk so fondly of his mother. But it felt strange. The Alpha was kind and good, but Tobias had never known his mother to be someone she would have viewed so highly. And while his mother had always respected their Alpha, she’d never shared anything about their relationship. So, to hear their leader speak about his mother in such an intimate way left him feeling confused.
As the stories finally came to an end, his Alpha explained that she’d come for more than just nostalgia. There was something about his mother he hadn’t known, a secret that she had kept from everyone since before Tobias had even been born. There was no title for what Janice had been, only an explanation that she kept the pack safe from anyone or anything that would do it harm. A problem solver before problems began. As they sat together at the table, it slowly began to feel as if everything in Tobias’ life made sense. His mother’s talks about pack importance, about there being people who would sacrifice everything for the greater good of their family. It was like a puzzle he hadn’t even realized he’d been putting together finally had its last piece.
As the Alpha stood, Tobias rose with her. A hand on the young boy’s shoulder, she extended her deepest regrets for his loss, but did not offer an apology. Tobias didn’t need one. And as she turned to leave, he stopped her.
Someone will need to take her place.
Yes.
This is what his mother had been raising him for, of that he was certain. Janice had been a realist and must have known that one day there would be a threat that she would lose to. Perhaps she had not known when death would come for her, but she’d prepared Tobias for its inevitable arrival all the same. It was his responsibility now to take her place and continue to uphold her legacy.
Let it be me.
It took a short amount of time for Tobias to grow comfortable in the role he’d accepted. But like his mother, he was soft spoken and had a smile people wanted to trust. Building connections with every type of species in Rome, regardless of any alliances, Tobias received news almost as fast as it was being created. He kept the façade of a normal life; getting into photography, volunteering at shelters throughout the year, a small group of friends, a soccer team when the season called for it. He played the part of a grieving, but slowly healing son and no one was the wiser. Just another Tiber beta.
When eventually the Tiber Alpha fell and Alek took her place, Tobias was hesitant to reveal himself. A new Alpha could uproot everything he’d worked for, potentially even reveal what Tobias did. Would the pack understand, or would they hate him for the violence he inflected for their benefit? He thought specifically of his best friend, the one he held most dear. Would she look him in the eye if she knew what horrors he was capable of? Dwelling on such thoughts would do him no good. He sought out Alek, laying the truth out and waited for the new Alpha’s reaction.
His work was accepted, but changes were made. With Alek’s control of both packs and the creation of a singular Lupo pack, a council was formed to build community and trust. And again, Tobias was forced to reveal himself. A secret he had kept between him and only one other for almost ten years was suddenly under a spot light, or at least, that’s how it felt as he explained himself to the handpicked council. He felt vulnerable in a way he had never experienced. Where once so few people paid him mind, the most important people in his pack now saw him. But it was with no regret or fear that he detailed his time as their silent watchman. Let them judge him, he’d done his duty and had done it well. Another agreement to keep his actions was made, and so Tobias’ work continued.
Try as he might to keep up with the background noise of Rome, all of his years in role weren’t able to prepare him for war. But he’d followed them in, ran beside the other Lycans and chose to forget when it was all said and done. He had enough to keep him awake at night, anything he didn’t have to add, the better.
Regardless of that choice, change was once again laid at his feet. With Alek gone and the creation of Lupercal, Tobias was under no belief that things were going to get any easier. The council would do what they thought was right for the Lycans, which would only lead more enemies to their doorstep. And without an Alpha, it would be seen as a weakness; a chance to strike while the dogs chased their tails. The war had ended, but change of any kind was not an easy pill to swallow. His skill and time would be needed now more than ever if the Lycans had any chance of keeping themselves in a position of power.
Life may have dealt him another shitty hand, but Tobias has gotten good at playing the game.

Hi. Tell me about Calum. Or Florian. Baker's choice. 👀
Hi! Thank you for the ask omg! Hope you are prepared for more than a bit of an infodump lol
My boyyyys haha it's a little hard to pick one buuuut I guess I'll go with Florian!
-full name is Franz Florian Leitner
-born and raised in Vienna ((fun fact about both of these characters that I am. cringing to admit but. they both started out as Hetalia ocs cuz I was really into it when I was like 13/14 but I loved them so much they became their own boys)), moved to Berlin at 20, Amsterdam at 24, New York city at 27 and then ended up vaguely in the PNW US at 28. this boy keeps runnin
-his mother Lita was a rising star ballerina who got pregnant as a teen and kicked out by her parents but her grandfather took her in and was there for the first five years of Florian's life before he passed. he left them his home and inheritence so they were financially stable but now Lita was left alone to raise the kid who she sees as the reason her life fell apart. there is a lot of resentment between the two of them
-Florian showed an early aptitude for music and his mother really latched on to that and adopted the same "pressure makes diamonds" attitude her parents had towards her. Florian has practically no social life growing up, all of his free time is dedicated to practicing music
-when he comes out as gay her response is "good to know you won't be getting anyone pregnant. are you ready for that play test tomorrow? I expect to hear good things from your director, Franz" (he started going by Florian as like. an act of rebellion but Lita refuses to acknowledge it bc he's named after her grandfather who took them in and she sees it as extremely disrespectful to his memory)
-But more about Florian himself! the first instrument he ever played was piano and he is very skilled at it, but he fell in love with violin at age 4 after seeing a performance of Vivaldi's four seasons. His grandfather got him a child sized violin and a book on basics and that was that, Florian was hooked. Music is his happy place in spite of the pressure his mother would end up putting on him about it. Since he wasn't allowed to do things with friends outside of performances he spent a lot of time on his own learning about all different instruments, their histories, how to play them, etc. If you give him about a day with any given instrument he can come back to you and play something at at least a basic skill level depending on how familiar he was with the instrument beforehand. (this leads to friends he makes later in life basically just. handing him their instruments and being like "can you play THIS tho??" and the answer is usually yes)
-ask him about an instrument if you would like an hours long dissertation about its history and cultural influences! you can't get him to stop once he starts! (he later meets and befriends a cool nb lesbian named Mickie who is also Very Autistic about music. they become besties and their combined infodumping could educate a lecture hall full of disinterested music majors)
-transcribes music by hand for fun and relaxation
-he is a ridiculously heavy sleeper and can will himself to fall asleep anytime, anywhere. not god themself could wake this mans when he decides it's bedtime
-he looks like the softest sweetest lil nerd who will faint if he hears swear words but he had a pretty hardcore party phase in his early twenties. classic case of stifled/sheltered kid going crazy once they're on their own. he hit up a lot of clubs, experimented with a lot of substances, got into a habit of drunken hookups which he found to be So Much Easier to handle than like. a relationship where you have to deal with your feelings or ~whatever~. his friends later in life are astonished when they learn all this bc they assumed that his body count was MAYBE 1 and that he didn't know what drugs were. he just DOES NOT seem the type
-partied a little too hardy and had to stop. got back into music as a main focus after kinda just fucking around for a few years. tried to live in NYC but hated it. ended up in (vague city, I don't actually wanna be tied to a specific real location lol) for a music festival with a small group and ended up checking out the open auditions the local symphony orchestra was holding. decided to audition on violin and made it in! this is how he ends up in (vague city)
-this boy is very anxious and not very good at making friends. he can hold conversation with other members of the symphony okay but outside of that he really just keeps to himself. it's what he's used to, and aside from that he tends to jump to the worst conclusions about all of his social interactions because he doesn't know how to read people. he leaves most conversations having convinced himself that the other person hates him when usually at worst he may have said some rude shit on accident
-how he and Calum meet varies depending on the setting (I have so many aus for them) but the consistent thing is that there's an immediate connection. which scares the Fuck out of Florian who really doesn't do the whole "commitment" thing. so he bolts which leaves Calum going "hey wtf I thought there was something to this? get back here." lucky for both of them Calum is stubborn
-an important thing to get across - Florian is kind of bitchy. he doesn't mean to be (most of the time) but he doesn't always know what is or isn't considered appropriate to say so he'll say shit not realizing it's rude (like comments about people's appearances or giving his actual brutally honest opinion on something), or he gets overwhelmed by a situation and lashes out. Calum is particularly good at pushing his buttons and the two of them bicker quite a bit, especially at first. it takes Florian a long time to wrap his head around the fact that Calum still likes him even when they're not getting along
-I feel like I should cut it here cuz it's getting long but I'll end saying Florian's story in pretty much any setting is about him learning to love himself and make healthy connections with other people and lean on them for support. I could go on for like. hours but that pretty much covers basic facts and what I consider to be his "base canon" backstory! Thanks so much again for the ask!!
here are a couple old as fuck (circa 2015 I think?) doodles of him. I haven't drawn as much in recent years but that's my boy!

NAME. Dior 'Bladeweaver' Thalasir AGE & BIRTH DATE. 380 & November 27th, 2644 GENDER & PRONOUNS. Male & He/Him NATIONALITY. Lysaran SPECIES. High Elvhen FACTION. N/A OCCUPATION. Gladiator FACE CLAIM. Charles Melton
biography
( tw: violence, death )
The noble family of Thalasir has long held dominion over the lowest branch of Laurelin on Sylaise's Shore—a destiny traditionally reserved for each firstborn child. Dior, born second, was spared these heavy responsibilities. Instead, he enjoyed the freedom to explore his desires, traversing not only the other branches but also the varied regions of Taravell, charming all whom he encountered.
When Dior's powers emerged, his parents hoped he would embrace a life of craftsmanship, particularly given his potential to become the most celebrated weapons craftsman in centuries. However, the prospect of crafting weapons for others to claim glory was unappealing to him. This realization did not quench his ambition but redirected it; Dior decided to seek his own path to glory.
Returning to Lysara with a newfound purpose, Dior set his sights on becoming the world's greatest gladiator. He used his charm to secure sponsorship from a wealthy family, promising to bring glory to their name through his prowess in the arena. With his unique ability granting him a significant edge, Dior devoted himself to rigorous training in their ludus. His debut match was a resounding success, and victory came effortlessly.
Dior quickly outgrew the small arena, rising to compete in the premier leagues of gladiatorial combat. Despite the increase in competition, few could pose a real challenge; defeating someone who could conjure a blade out of thin air proved a daunting task for his opponents.
Dior was not only a formidable opponent in the arena, but he also became the crowd's favorite. Far from humble, his striking looks combined with his flair for trash-talking and showboating made him a sensation. Arenas sold out their seats in record time whenever he was slated to appear, surpassing even the most optimistic predictions of the promoters. Even when not fighting, merely being an honored guest at events, people would clamor for the priciest seats just for the chance to catch a glimpse of him. The glory and fame he had longed for were now his, and he reveled in every moment of it.
Returning to Avalon was always a bittersweet affair for Dior. He would transition from the adulation of hundreds chanting his name to the quiet disapproval of his family, who saw little value in his gladiatorial pursuits. Most of the elvhen shared this sentiment, unable to understand the allure of the arena. Yet, for Dior, this was a minor inconvenience compared to the thunderous welcome he received at each of his comeback fights. No matter how often he departed, the roar of the crowd upon his return reassured him of his chosen path. The arena had become his sanctuary, the fans his chosen kin, providing a sense of belonging that Avalon no longer offered.
Of course, just when everything seemed perfect, his actual family would appear to complicate matters. Dior was vaguely aware of the missteps his older sibling had made, though the details were murky. Yet somehow, it had fallen upon him to rectify these blunders in the name of the Thalasir family. The dilemma was stark: stepping up would mean abandoning everything he had fought so hard to achieve, a sacrifice he was not sure he was willing to make. Never intended to bear the burden of responsibility as the second son, Dior was resistant to changing his course now. His life in the arena, free from the expectations tied to his sibling's birthright, was where he thrived.

Synopsis: This story continues from Spectacular Spider-Man #240…
Mary Jane is out shopping with her Aunt Anna when she decides to call her husband Peter Parker and tell him that they are stopping at the Daily Grind for lunch and tell him when she expects to return home. As the two women plan out the final leg of their shopping spree, they are completely unaware that the mysterious man plotting against Spider-Man is continuing his grand scheme in the building behind them. Meeting Gaunt, his loyal second in command, this mystery man is pleased that Gaunt eliminated Seward Trainer. Decked out in his new cybernetic armor, Gaunt -- aka Mendel Stromm -- is ordered to tie up the remaining loose ends of his master's grand scheme and then he is to kill Ben Reilly right before Peter Parker's eyes.
Meanwhile, at the Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson is furious to learn that there is an emergency board meeting scheduled for that evening, on Halloween of all nights. As he complains, Joe Robertson points out that the Daily Bugle has been under a lot of financial strains recently and that is likely going to be the topic of conversation. Fed up, Jonah rushes to the elevators to try and get to the upper floors to discuss the situation with the board of directors only to discover that the elevators are undergoing maintenance, angering him even more. While at Peter Parker's home in Forest Hills, Ben Reilly assists him in finding his mobile device so he can keep in touch with Mary Jane while they are out. As they walk the neighborhood, Ben once again expresses his excitement of being an uncle, as Peter and Mary Jane's baby is due to be born soon. They also notice the repair efforts being undergone in the area following Onslaught's attack on Manhattan. This reminds them how the Fantastic Four and the Avengers sacrificed their lives to stop Onslaught and how the city needs heroes right now. That's when Peter suggests that maybe it is time for there to be two Spider-Men. Ben reminds Peter that he has a responsibility to his wife and unborn child and reminds him that Peter's powers are not back to their full strength and cut out on occasion. Peter, however, shows Ben that he is at the top of his game by leaping up into a nearby tree and swings between the branches. Ben is convinced but tells Peter to cut it out before someone sees him. While at Manhattan's 28th Precinct, Aruthr Stacy pays a visit to Detective Connor Trevane to discuss a common interest: Spider-Man.
While in Hoboken, Flash Thompson receives a letter by registered courier. It turns out to be an invitation to a Halloween party being thrown at the Daily Bugle. Although the invitation is anonymous, Flash thinks this is a perfect opportunity for him redeem himself in the eyes of Betty Brant. At that same moment, Betty Brant is opening her own invitation, however, hers isn't entirely anonymous, as it is signed by someone calling themselves "O", unfortunately, she has no idea who it could be. Back in Queens, Peter finally manages to convince Ben that his powers are back up to full speed when suddenly both of their spider-senses goes off. They leap into the ruins of a nearby school and find some children playing in the rubble. As they are trying to get the kids to safety, the pair is suddenly ambushed by Gaunt. In the ensuing confusion, Ben manages to slip away and changes into Spider-Man. As the wall-crawler distracts Gaunt, Peter leads the children to safety.
In Manhattan, Mary Jane and her Aunt Anna are sitting down to lunch at the Daily Grind. When Mary Jane orders the gumbo, the waitress goes into the kitchen to prepare the meal. When nobody is looking, the waitress then slips a drug into the soup with a sly grin on her face. Back in Queens, Spider-Man continues to fight his foe and learns that it is Gaunt, the man who ran Multivex and forced Seward Trainer to work with him. This distracted thought allows Gaunt to finally strike the web-slinger. The battle then causes a collapse elsewhere trapping Peter and the children. As Parker tries to move the rubble, his spider-powers aren't co-operating. However, his spider-sense begins going off warning him of the children whose eyes have just started glowing. At that moment, at the Daily Grind, Mary Jane has suddenly gone into labor and it is an incredibly painful one, prompting an ambulance to be called. The paramedics on the scene realize that this isn't natural and could spell trouble for the pregnant woman and her unborn child. In Queens, Spider-Man finally pins Gaunt to the ground and gets a good look at his restored face. He instantly recognizes him as Mendel Stromm -- the man that Spider-Man once fought years ago. While Spider-Man is distracted again, Stromm activates a pair of robots that try and ambush the wall-crawler from behind.

Now that I have a little more time, I can give more substance to the answers I gave you earlier, at least the first time.
Here's what I really thought, based on my reading of Morpheus: there can't be any happy ending involving that Morpheus remains Dream of the Endless. Why?
First, because as you said, it would imply that he doesn't kill Orpheus, or that someone does it for him, and none of these solutions are satisfying, because we can't let Orpheus live like this and we can't also give someone else than his father the responsability of killing him. I guess only Calliope, being his mother, would be ok to do it because she would want her son to stop suffering, but since she has no responsability in what happened to Orpheus unlike Dream, I doubt that she could. And anyway, would aynone want to inflict that to her? Surely not, so let's forget it.
Second, and that's almost a more important reason for me than the first one: Morpheus isnn't happy being Dream of the Endless. He expressed multiple times that he refused to abandon his realm, but it wasn't because he loved being king of the Dreaming... He felt he had no choice, because it was his responsabilities and he was born for it, but I think being physically trapped in a fishbowl for 100 years made him really aware of how he felt about his role.
He asked Shakespeare to write the Tempest and he tells him why:
"I wanted a tell of graceful ends. I wanted a play about a king who drowns his books, and breaks his staff, and leaves his kingdom. About a magician who becomes a man. About a man who turns his back on magic."
And when Shakespeare asks him why, he answers
"Because I will never leave my island."
And that's when he also says he can't change, and that he's the Prince of stories but has no story of his own. Which is of course wrong, we all know it here, but that's the story he's been telling himself since forever, and thus he's miserable and unable to imagine another life even if... even if he wants one. He thinks he can't, he also thinks he doesn't deserve it , so he asked Shakespeare to write a story where he could.
So, I know I personally can't and won't write a story with "happy forever ending" with Morpheus who's still king of the Dreaming and has by his sides the queen/king of his choice, because the way I read this story he wants to be something else entirely.
That's the true tragedy: he wants another life, he knows he could have it because he saw his sibling have it, everybody tells him he should just leave, but he takes the excuse of duty and rules to stay until he finds a way out, which is Death. I can't think of a scenario where he would kill his son, or not kill him but know his son is miserable as hell, AND have a happy ending as a ruler of the Dreaming. This just doesn't work.
To be happy, he needs to change. To change, he needs to stop hating himself and trust his capacity to change. But as long as he stays Dream of the Endless, he won't allow himself that because he feels bonded by rules and responsabilities, excuses he will always give himself not to change. It's a very vicious circle in which Neil has written Morpheus in.
And let's, for the fun of it, admit he "retires", as it's often suggested in fics and headcanons: I think @writing-for-life you said it before me: how could he happy with all his memories? How do you expect a father to live happy ever after remembering he killed his only son with his own hands? I mean, it can be argued that Hob lost several children, and that a lot of people irl lost their kids and still manage to move on from their loss in their life; BUT Morpheus didn't just lose his son, he murdered him. It was an act of mercy, of course, but it's still extremely traumatizing. I don't think that he could just "retire" and live happy forever as barista in a coffee shop with such a heavy baggage.
So yeah, as far as I'm concerned the only good way is reincarnation. A new life, a rebirth, with no memories left of his previous incarnation or, you know, just fragments that could help him. I have no idea if it would work within canon, and I don't have any hope that the show will even suggest this outcome, but that's the only "happy forever ending" I would accept, I think.
Give me your head-canons:
How do you solve the Orpheus problem?
As in: It’s the elephant in the room in so many canon-compliant or -adjacent fanfics I read (we obviously don’t need to talk about coffee shop AUs) and Orpheus either keeps on existing somehow (and no one cares, because Dream and whatever love interest just literally fuck off into the sunset and pretend everything’s okay), or he gets killed by someone else who quite strictly wouldn’t be able to kill him.
Is it a solvable problem?
If he keeps existing as a severed head, it’s honestly a bit shite for him, isn’t it? So these are the fics where we keep on visiting severed heads. I don’t know, I find that… dissatisfying.
If Dream kills him, it’s over. Unless he stays in the Dreaming and lets the storm blow over. Will it though? I mean yeah, he could sit there for all eternity (groan), not take Death’s hand and make sure he doesn’t conveniently leave so the Kindly Ones get in and start ripping the Dreaming to shreds. But that doesn’t really sound like a solution to me either, because the problem won’t go away. Also: Probably no meetings in the waking world with you-know-who ever again. Plot hole, people, it doesn’t work that way.
If someone else kills him: Who? Please don’t say Hob, I know he’s immortal (so was Murphy), but the very idea is that no one can kill the poor kid because he made a deal with Death, which she apparently can’t revoke. Is there an entity who could? Which links in to the question: Why could Dream (somewhat rhetorical question)? Could any similar entity do it if they also had to grant him a boon? But don’t forget: Can’t be one of the Endless, they’re all family. Unless one sacrifices themselves. I mean, I think I’ve seen Death doing that in a fic somewhere, I think the assumption was she’s okay with dying a mortal death, but I also felt that’s not quite right, since it’s just not the same (also: in her mortal form, she wouldn’t have those powers). Does it have to be The Presence/Glory? Why would they care?
Yeah, he could use the Saeculum I guess, but really? If the problem never existed, it would also feel… wrong? Plus, we all know that changing the past always has implications on the future that go far beyond the thing we want to change. Plus plus: I honestly think it would be a bit OOC for him because he’d feel there’s not enough at stake (like a whole universe imploding) to ever justify that. So no, that’s, IMHO, making him into someone he really isn’t (can of course be an option in fanfic I guess).
Same goes for the Dream of a Thousand Cats Spiel. Someone who is so wrapped up in his duty just wouldn’t do that for his own personal gain, and not even for one loved one (he also wouldn’t be allowed to kick it off by telling anyone, and what 1,000 dreamers would dream that? I mean, WE all would, but that’s a bit… meta?😂). I said what I said.
Or is it some sort of magic? Like, he’s still a severed head, but we make him *think* he isn’t, give him back a body (in his own mind, or maybe even for real)? But that’s also… not great and feels like gaslighting him. Really not keen.
So what say you?
Is this just a case of: Unsolvable problem, hence we might as well pretend we solve it in some ridiculous way or pretend it doesn’t exist in the first place?

Can you please do a CE characters reactions to reader announcing she’s pregnant?
YES 😩 - I’ll also add how they act after the news are announced because I feel like that will differentiate them better.
18+ ONLY | MINORS DNI
WARNING - the following contains: pregnancy, mention of sex and breeding kink.
Steve Rogers
When you first bring forward the news, he’s over the moon with eagerness.
“Sweetheart, are you serious? Oh my god, this is amazing! I’m going to be a father!”
He has been waiting for this very moment for so long, and you’ll have to deal with his constant strokes around your belly for the next 9 months. Even when you aren’t showing, he can’t seem to stop touching your stomach, because to him it’s a reminder of the bundle of joy it’ll grow to be soon. He is just in full amazement of how you’re glowing when your baby bump starts so show, and he’ll remind you as such.
“Have I told you how amazing you are? Keeping my child, safe and healthy in your womb…you’ll make an amazing mother. I love you so much.”
He will spend all his time with you at the end of your second trimester, taking you out for slow and nice walks in a quiet park while planning on what names you should consider naming your child, and talking about your plans on moving to a nice and secured family house where you can raise your child in peace.
Ransom Drysdale
I think Ransom would be a bit shocked, especially if it wasn’t planned.
“Wait, what? Are you sure? Well damn…- wait no, - I mean that’s great news darling, m’just processing it….”
He’s aware of the heavy responsibility that comes with raising a child and he is unsure of himself if he’s capable of being a good father. You’ll have that talk where you soothe and assure him that everything will be okay, and that he will be a wonderful father if he’s willing to put in the effort.
“Well, if you’re up to raising a brat into the Drysdale family, count me in. M’sure we will manage. Besides, I’m willing to bet you’ll look fucking sexy with your tummy all round with my child.” He will add with seductiveness.
Ransom will take care of your needs, both physical and sexual needs at his best. He will hire maids to take over the chores you used to do, and as for your other needs - it’s left in Ransom’s good hands. Your pregnancy period will also be Ransom’s journey of discovering he has a pregnancy/breeding kink.
Johnny Storm
Johnny would be taken by surprise, and wouldn’t know how to feel right after being given the news.
“You’re pregnant? For real? That’s…wow, I don’t know what to say. Not that it’s bad news or anything, I just didn’t expect it to happen so soon…”
Behind his somewhat excited facade, he’s actually really scared of parenthood. In the beginning, he will resolve into being distant only days after knowing, and go on his own adventures for a temporary escape. Ben, Reed and his sister, Susan will call him out on it as it goes noticed and they will tell him he needs to man up. He’ll realize he’s in the wrong for not being there for you as much as he should be and he will be of full support after the end of your first trimester, dedicating himself for the full life commitment.
“I’ll be here more from now on, I promise, babe. I’m sorry I was distant, - I was being a coward. I love you and can’t wait to meet the little guy.” He’ll say softly, while stroking your baby bump. As you spend more time together, the more excited he is to be a dad - especially since there’s a possibility for his child being born with powers similar to his own.
Ari Levinson
Ari is thrilled when he receives the news, mostly for your behalf because he knows you have wanted to be a mom for some time. He hasn’t had the space in his thoughts to think about kids due to how busy he is being a part of these secret operations of the operation brothers, but he’s happy to know he has something to look forward to.
“No way! You’re pregnant? Now that is some exciting news, sugar!“
While he has huge passion for his line of work, he’s more than willing to take a small break and take care of you during your first pregnancy. He’s also eager to be a father again, with your child nonetheless. Still, he’ll have to be away sometimes but he’ll come back sooner than before.
“I’ll be gone every now and then, but I can’t wait to see you each time, glowing more with our child. You’ll look absolutely stunning, muffin. Call me and update me always, okay? That way I have rest assured over yours and the little one’s well-being.”
Jake Jensen
Jake would be reacting with most physical excitement. When you tell him, you’ll witness his eyes pop out, almost coming through his glasses and his mouth agape. He can’t even remain seated as he rises up from his seat in anticipation.
“What?! We’re having a baby?? Holy shit! - sorry, I’m just - I’m so freaking happy right now! We’re gonna have a baby! We need to celebrate, babe!”
You’ll throw a baby shower and invite his friends, the losers, and later throw a gender reveal party and everything. Jake’s all about going full out on pregnancy celebrations because he thinks they’re fun to arrange while you wait these 9 months due. He’ll buy lots of toys meant for 5+ years kids because he’s so over enthusiastic about it.
“Man, I can’t even contain myself - I know the baby hasn’t even come out yet but we need to buy these action toys. I mean look how cool they are - We should buy them and they’ll be able to play with them after passing year two or something.”
Andy Barber
You were more than nervous to tell Andy as you didn’t know how he would react when he already has a child from his previous marriage. As you tell him the news, he doesn’t react overly excited but far from disappointed either - rather his face will soften with adoration.
“Aww, honey…this is wonderful. We’re finally going to be parents of our very own baby.”
The two of you are already off shopping for baby clothes and supplies because Andy likes being prepared. You haven’t even ended the second trimester and Andy’s already doing arrangements of turning the guest room into your baby’s room. He doesn’t let you lay down a finger as he wants you to keep all your energy till when you give birth.
“Sweetie, put the pan down. I’ll handle dinner. Just relax on the couch, keep our baby comfortable and I’ll soon come over to you with your favorite dish. I’ll make it’s just the way you like it.” He’ll assure you.
Note from author: fuck, to be pregnant with any of these men’s child. Sounds like a dream. - anyway thank you for the suggestion anon! ♥️

november of 2020, red barrels did a charity stream for extralife that was pretty lowkey. sadly, only a few people attended, so i’d like to document the info we got from writer jt petty for the fandom!
i'll divide what we discussed during red barrels' charity stream into sections: games and comics. some of this could be misremembered or misquoted, but i'm trying to stick by the facts that i recall.
OUTLAST & WHISTLEBLOWER:
outlast is, as a matter of fact, under the ‘dating sim’ category on steam. jt says that he wrote a lot of the characters in this mindset. he also said it probably says more about him than the characters.
miles is the kind of guy to get fussed about the difference between 'carport' and 'garage' and 'eclair' and 'boston creme'. this is about the only insight we got into his personality, because jt couldn't talk about him: miles and waylon were pretty firmly off limits.
as for waylon, his taste in music is heavy metal! he's kind of the cool dad, or at least perpetuates the cool dad myth. he would definitely play mario kart with his two boys. gamer dad!
chris walker was from a military family. after returning home from afghanistan, he struggled to make a return to normalcy, and didn't have many connections to others nor friendships. jt doesn't believe he was ever involved romantically. he said that he feels chris was in the process of trying to heal by looking for something to protect. chris is also his and vincent’s favorite character.
father martin enjoyed painting landscapes before the art therapy program was cut by helen grant, according to red barrels. when asked if he liked bob ross, they responded, ‘who doesn’t?’ when my friend said that he was the creepiest character in outlast, jt said that’s totally on her.
rick trager was born into money, and his father's estate and success made it nigh impossible for him to measure up to his legacy. he was the classic disappointment son of a billionaire and never lived up to his father’s expectations. in a bit of trivia, we learned his favorite food is croissants: spinach croissants in particular, because he hates himself. jt also mentioned that rick likely believed he would really profit from selling the body parts he amputated from the variants and miles, and figured he would make out just fine. and that, ‘he probably will.’ if he had a dog, it would probably be something sickly and overbred, like a pug.
langin is named after jt’s wife. he names characters he dislikes after people he likes, and vice versa.
jeremy blaire is probably the most reprehensible character in outlast: the one who is most capable of assuming responsibility for his actions, a face to the name of the murkoff corporation. he enjoys christmas because of the capitalist reason for the season. he would probably give pretty lousy and cheap gifts to his employees. he’s named after two people jt likes.
furthermore, murkoff isn’t the sort of company that gives permission for holiday parties during work hours: if you want to celebrate at all, you do it on your own time or your break.
frank manera would probably be a fan of phil collins’ music since his songs often have a very slow buildup before the payoff. jt interestingly compared this to cannibalism, and how it requires dedicated patience. frank had to go without before indulging in human meat.
frank would most likely get along very well with eddie if they'd met under different circumstances, such as at a party. he sees the two of them as being very unlikely friends, the two dissimilar guys you never expect to get along as well as they do.
eddie was jt’s favorite character to write for due to his ‘flirtatious’ and fun dialogue. he truly believes in his delusions, or rather that they aren’t delusions at all; he was described as being blind to everything else around him when he thinks that he’s in love. if he had a dog, it would be a corgi.
OUTLAST II:
lynn was inspired by people jt has met in the film industry, and her ambition highlights that.
knoth is pretty cultured when it comes to his taste in music, and he has a lot of knowledge of older artists. i believe jt said that he mostly enjoys the blues. if he had a dog, it would have attachment issues and be extremely eager to please, like a shepherd or cattle dog.
marta’s goal of becoming perfectly brainwashed to the doctrine of temple gate was realized. in trying to please knoth, she erased any lingering doubts or traces of guilt in what she was doing, and she no longer feels much emotion at all due to how she has absorbed the cult’s mentality. she is ultimately feared because she is the perfect example of obedience to knoth.
she/her pronouns were used for val. jt corrected himself quickly to they/them, but it still stands.
jenny roland, the pathologist mentioned in documents in both the underground lab from outlast and well-hidden field report from the lake chapter of outlast 2, may very well make an appearance in future games. she seems to be quite important, as jt couldn’t talk about her outside of one personality detail i got out of him: she doesn’t wear either slippers or socks in her home because she’s a clean freak and instead goes barefoot. she’s the sort of person to have everything neatly organized in her home, all the shoes lined up by the door, and not a speck of dust in sight. he was pretty genuinely surprised by all the interest in her character, and red barrels suggested making joke merch for her. socks and maybe fingerless gloves? i'd honestly buy some jenny socks.
THE COMICS:
jt said that the pauls (the two murkoff legal mitigation officers, paul marion and pauline glick) are going to be increasingly relevant to the story of outlast as it continues, and that he has big plans to continue where the comics left off. given this tidbit, and the epilogue of the story, could we possibly see paul as future protagonist, or maybe in pauline's case, a future major antagonist? at least there’s now solid hope for a follow up to the story of the comics, and possibly an explanation as to what led to paul and pauline’s injuries, as well as murkoff’s haste to find paul before he does further damage. his story left off with simon telling him that they have to find the walrider in order to find the answer to where his daughter alice has disappeared to, after all.
likewise, he hinted that alice marion (paul's daughter) is also going to somehow be crucially important, making mention of the circumstances of her rare blood disease and experimental gene therapy treatment by the murkoff corporation not being any sort of coincidence, and saying that he has big plans for her. could this mean that simon was telling the truth about her connection to temple gate? is she somehow connected to the morphogenic engine? could this also be why pauline says that paul was her target from the beginning? mysterious!
he talked about how the concept for paul marion was created, and how at his core, he's just a guy doing a job. his dreamcast for paul would be philip seymour hoffman.
a bit of interesting talk about the 'personality' of the walrider when questioned if miles likes dogs. since his neighbor says they like him, but they reacted violently to his returned presence at his apartment after the mount massive incident, i asked if miles likes dogs as well as they like him. jt and red barrels implied, rather than stating outright, that the walrider itself doesn't like dogs. it was also mentioned that it's very protective and overly defensive, very attached to one person, and unwilling to share. interesting attributes given to something that isn't supposed to be sentient. (edit: later confirmed by jt in one of the anniversary q&a videos to be a sort of sentient hive mind.)
simon peacock is named after the voice director the character himself was voiced by at the end of whistleblower. however, unlike the real simon peacock, the fictional simon is not from new zealand. is he faking an accent? his character will also be further explored as the story continues!
MISCELLANEOUS:
i knew that trials was a topic that couldn’t be talked about, but still suggested my theory on the story connecting back to the mkultra documents found in mount massive in the first game. jt asked if i was someone from red barrels trying to get him in trouble. i think this speaks for itself. :)
he has a giant pet lop bunny named holly! 10/10! would donate to the cause again just for her!
red barrels said that they’re still accepting merch ideas before reopening the store, and to message them if there’s anything in particular anyone would be interested in seeing. the physical copy of the comics will be restocked in the future, and they may restock other items previously seen in the store. they like to make joke merch, too, so keep that in mind!
and that’s about everything outlast related that i can recollect! is there anything you guys are excited about in particular? personally, i’m totally psyched about the hints towards resolving the comics, and the importance of the marions going forward, since they’ve been my favorite characters for quite a long time. feel free to correct anything here if i've misquoted. it's been a few weeks, and my original notes were very short and to the point.
#outlast#outlast 2#the murkoff account#red barrels#outlast trials#the outlast trials#murkoff corporation#miles upshur#waylon park#realized i never transferred this from reddit lmao. enjoy.

In your half-brothers au would u think there would be any changes in their personalities? Like maybe hiccup the elder is more fatherly or mature as he looked after the younger or maybe he went the opposite way and became more immature and reckless as he grew up with a friend to cause trouble with rather then being by himself in the forge?
Same with hiccup the younger would he be more mischievous as he no longer has to worry about being cheif of berk someday or would he be more brave as he always looked out for hiccup or more frightened as he always had hiccup to look out for him and so on and so on! The possibilities on how u can adapt these characters are endless really
Love yr au btw yr doing an amazing job :D
Oh there is SO much we could get into regarding the differences in these boys' personalities!! This might get a little long.
For starters, Hiccup the Elder is the first born. He's next in line to be the chief of Berk, which puts a lot of stress on him-- especially considering that everyone and their cat thinks he's unfit for the title. He's desperate to prove his worth to the point of recklessness, chasing the fantasy of killing a dragon, befriending his intimidating peers, earning the pride of his cheif father and hero stepmother, and finally becoming the heir that Berk deserves. The one person he feels has any respect for him whatsoever is his little brother of the same name, who is somehow even smaller and weaker than he is.
Elder feels responsible for Younger because 1) their mother is never around and 2) that's what his father has always expected of him. Taking care of Younger is the only thing that allows him to feel like a real leader, because Younger is the only person who has ever listened to him. Even if Younger still picks and chooses the things he'll actually obey.
Elder at first comes off as very callous and harsh toward Younger when we first see them in HTTYD 1. This is because it's during this time specifically that Elder is really projecting his frustration at never being listened to by his father, and turning it into a very bossy and entitled relationship with his little brother. He'll never admit it, but Elder is actually jealous of Younger, too, because Younger has next to no expectations to fulfill, no giant viking shoes he's obligated to fill.
As for Hiccup the Younger, he's got his own problems. Or is it the lack of?
As the second son, Younger not only has had the heavy burden of the Hooligan future taken from his shoulders, but he's also been handed, on a silver platter, the one thing book Hiccup wanted more than anything else; the ability to blend into the background and not draw attention to himself.
Unfortunately, Younger has come to find that this way of living is actually extremely miserable. Not only is he overlooked in his tribe, he is overlooked by his own father as well, since Stoick pays more attention to his attention-seeking older brother-- the 'important' one, the eldest son, the heir to Berk-- than to him. Younger feels overshadowed by Elder, and is tired of everyone in Berk comparing him to him. Now, more than anything, Younger just wants to be seen.
Funny enough, despite Elder being the older brother, Younger is the one who exhibits the most parental traits. This is because Book Hiccup in particular has been shown to be a 'mom friend' of sorts. This carries over to the au, where he'll not only parent Little Tooth and Little Fish, but also his brother. Elder finds this very annoying.
As the series continues, though, both Hiccups grow individually into their own strengths-- and as they do, their bond with each other strengthens as well. They find common ground in their dragons and their passion for dragon research, opening up to each other little by little until they become actual friends. They start to trust each other with more secrets, they start confiding in each other, helping each other grow.
For their regular personalities, they don't change all that much!! Elder is still lethally sassy and witty, as well as intuitive and inventive. Younger is still pretty dry and sarcastic, as well as unfairly clever and quite knowledgeable about pretty much anything.
But for the au specifically, the boys' Sibling disease includes;
Merciless teasing of brother until someone else teases him, then it's personal
Arguing about petty things, like who named their Toothless first, and getting really ruffled about it
Younger stealing Elder's clothes and Elder getting SO ANNOYED
Elder telling everyone that Younger is three years old
"I'll kill you" meme
Blaming each other for petty things/ taking the blame for petty things
"Get out of my room" "I'm not in your room" *in the doorway*
(they share a room)
Constant same name jokes as well as a while bunch of other inside jokes
Getting EXTREMELY protective of each other when it matters
This got long, but I hope you didn't mind me rambling about the boys!!
#SORRY THIS GOT LONG#THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME RAMBLE#ask#hiccup haddock#httyd au#half brothers au#hiccup#elder is more of a free spirit than younger is-- younger is much more grounded and interested in viking politics#so in httyd 2 theres a conflict between the brothers where younger implores elder to take responsibility for his tribe and elder trying#to convince younger that he would make a much better chief than elder ever could#trying to pass it to him instead#i feel like that would be a very natural and intriguing conflict
